“Do not follow where the path may lead. Go instead where there is no path and leave a trail.”

While conventional wisdom in difficult times persuades us to pull back and conform, Ralph Waldo Emerson's quote encourages innovation and leadership.

Emerson separated the world into two parties, The Establishment and The Movement, the latter representing the group who would drive progress by presenting new thoughts and ideas. This is the path we've chosen with the introduction of our Fall collection. While many in our industry are focused on reducing quality in an effort to lower prices, we've set our sights in the opposite direction, pursuing an even higher level of craftsmanship and design. We've searched the world for what Timothy Oulton (featured on the cover of this catalog) refers to as "Best on Planet" product, and continue to associate ourselves with those artisans who share our passion for great design. Find them featured throughout this catalog and in our ads in Architectural Digest, Elle Décor and Vanity Fair.

Peruse the following pages and find pieces like our nine-foot Window Dormer, a reproduction from a building in New York that now serves as a dramatic mirror, our handmade Leather Trunk that opens to reveal itself as a handsome Home Office Secretary, or a pair of Corbels reproduced from an edifice in Philadelphia that have been refashioned into a Unique Desk. Page after page, you'll find pieces that will not only furnish your home, but define it.

We have never been as excited to share our vision and discoveries with you. Are we part of The Movement? We like to think so; it is surely not the status quo.

As Emerson suggested, we've chosen to go where there is no path. Consider this catalog your invitation to join us.

Carpe Diem,

Gary Friedman
