Greco-Buddhist Statue Fragment - 2
The ancient kingdom of Gandhara spanned a region that is split between northern Pakistan and eastern Afghanistan today. Merging Buddhist tradition with Greek, Indian and Persian aesthetic influences, art from Gandhara portrayed the Buddha and Bodhisattvas (enlightened beings) with flowing hair and clad in graceful drapery – a perfect melding of human and the divine. Our careful resin reproductions capture the exquisite artistry of Gandharan standing figures carved from grey schist stone more than 15 centuries ago.
