William Curtis Rolf: Stables Interior at Kedleston

- No Longer Available -

Drawn from the archives of fine art photographer William Curtis Rolf, his exquisite black-and-white photographs depict a life-long affection for the 18th- and 19th-century lifestyles of France and England. A fine example of Roman vaulting, the interior of the Samuel Wyatt stables at Kedleston is a small-scale cathedral to horses. The descendants of the original owners have lived on the estate near Kedleston Hall since 1297. When Rolf photographed the stables, one of the family members asked whether he wanted the leaves swept up! He said that he would prefer having them left as they were. This is one of his favorite stables interiors of the nearly 100 he has photographed in Great Britain and France.
