1672 Plan de Paris Four-Panel Map
In 1672, French cartographer Albert Jouvin de Rochefort created this monumental plan of Paris, rendering the city's boulevards and avenues, parks and waterways in astounding detail. In the upper corners, he placed illustrations of Notre Dame cathedral and the Hotel de Ville, seats of religion and government, respectively. In the lower left, he dedicated his monumental work to Simon Arnauld, a prominent diplomat and ambassador to Sweden.
